Kurri Food Cooperative has been operating since September 2006. As part of Kurri Kurri Community Services, the Cooperative provides members in the community with the opportunity to obtain affordable household products and groceries they may not otherwise be able to buy.
The Cooperative has over 3,500 members who have access to a variety of subsidised products including packaged and tinned items, and limited free fruit, vegetables, bread and milk items. Members can access food from the Co-operative on a weekly basis.
Kurri Food Cooperative is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10:00am-1:30pm.
Members are expected to demonstrate they understand the program and sign the indemnity and membership forms. Membership of the Cooperative is offered to those who are:
- In genuine need of support and/or under hardship
- Able to demonstrate their qualification of membership either by presenting a current pension or Health Benefit Card issued by Centrelink
- Referred to the Cooperative through a recognised organisation
