For Employees

Eligibility

Clients are eligible for employment at KCS if they:

  • Are 16 years of age or older
  • Are in receipt of a Disability Support Pension or are assessed by Centrelink as eligible to be employed by an ADE
  • Be an NDIS Participant with funding for employment services included in their package
  • Require a level of training and support in order to gain and maintain employment because of a disability
  • Are physically capable of working
  • Have the ability and willingness to behave in a manner appropriate to KCS’s work environment
  • Preferably live in the Cessnock, Maitland, Dungog or Newcastle Local Government Areas.

Where a prospective employee has a greater disadvantage by not being in receipt of other support services, KCS will employ them if all other entrance criteria are met and work is available for them.

Rights & Expectations

Each KCS employee has the right to:

  • Receive ongoing and individually suited training and support
  • Be treated with respect and dignity, and protected from abuse
  • Have an advocate of their choice at all meetings
  • Have access to relevant information about them (otherwise confidential)
  • Access opportunities to participate in decision-making on all levels

Our employees are also expected to:

  • Be involved in discussions affecting them
  • Provide information to help KCS find them the right job
  • Attend work appointments on time or inform KCS if they are unable to
  • Ask questions if they do not understand instructions
  • Treat others in the workplace with dignity and respect
  • Work as part of the KCS and Kurri Kurri Community Services team
Training

Our supported employees are given every opportunity to increase their self-confidence and skills through regular training.  All of our employees have multiple ‘tickets’ with proven competency across a number of different practices including machine operation (eg. use of a chainsaw),  handling and spraying of chemicals and application of first aid. Many also have Certificate II, III or IV qualifications in Asset Maintenance and Workplace TAE (Supervision & Training). KCS is committed to a providing a dynamic learning environment for all employees so they can continue to gain new skills and work experiences.
